The fast of Shiva Asar B'Tammuz is observed this Sunday, which commences the period known as "Bein HaMetzarim" (lit. "between the straights"), culminating with Tisha B'Av. During this time, we should look for ways to mourn, commemorate, and connect to the losses and suffering of our ancestors throughout history - especially the loss of the Beit HaMikdash. This time also affords us an opportunity to heal and fix the faults of the past and aspire to a more perfect world with a restored Beit HaMikdash.
We also ought to recognize during this time the blessing that is the State of Israel, through which so many of the blessings and prophesies of healing and redemption are fulfilled. May we merit to see (and help bring to fruition) the complete redemption soon.
