B'nos Israel Mikvah
B'nos Israel Mikvah
In 1993, following the closing of the Mikvah on Elm street, rabbis of the Albany Jewish Community joined together to support a united Capital District Mikvah project. The Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York helped facilitate the project while the Albany Jewish Community Center graciously provided land for the Mikvah. The project was spearheaded by Rabbi Dr. Moshe Bomzer, who oversaw the Mikvah from its early days and for many years. Rabbi Ben Kean of Congregation Beth Abraham-Jacob currently serves as the Rav HaMakhshir with guidance from experts and Poskim who specialize in Mikvaot.
Located at 340 Whitehall Road, we have eight member synagogues and close to forty women members. In addition to women who use it for Taharat Hamishpacha (family purity), B’nos Israel Mikvah opens its doors to brides and tour groups. We also serve those who are converting to Judaism, and accommodate travelers from afar, such as Montreal, Massachusetts, and Vermont. We have two immersion Mikvaot (one including "bor al gabei bor" to accommodate those who follow Chabad practices) and one keilim (utensil) Mikvah.
